Crazy James

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.  And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.  James 1:2-4

Dear friends,

How do you interpret that passage?

"Oh that James, he’s always saying somethin’ silly.  He’s the same one who said faith without works is dead.  Maybe he learned as a young child he needed to make outlandish claims in order to steal the spotlight from his super-spiritual sibling…"

Is that how you process James 1:2-4?  Sort of silly?  Impractical?  A metaphor at best?  Well, let me share something with you, saints.  God’s Word – all His Words – mean just what they say.  Celebrate when trials come, knowing it’ll strengthen your relationship with and dependence on your Heavenly Father, and give you some valuable tools for uplifting others.  (II Cor 1:3-5)

So speaking of celebrating struggles, how are you feeling about your weight loss challenges?  Do you see physical discipline as a road to divine dependence?  Do you relish the opportunity to grow in God’s grace?   Are your food temptations a chance to die to self and walk in His abundant life?  Does the thought of encouraging your brothers and sisters through your own journey of faith excite you?

Well think it Church!

There’s no shortage of believers who waver in their temple maintenance so start shining your light of Divine reliance.  Declare your dependence on God Almighty that He might be glorified.  Embrace your weakness so His power is perfected.  Stir up others by sharing the good work He is doing in you.  Need to lose 30 pounds?  Don’t be disconsolate, darlin’.  Wave your arms wildly and praise His Holy Name!  You get to decrease (spiritually and physically) that He might increase.

Live Well,

Grace
