Scripture Spa

Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.  Psalm 25:16

Dear friends,

I hear from many of you that you are drawn to sabotage foods when you are feeling distraught, down or lonely, just like Brother David in Psalm 25.  I surely understand.  Though I lost my dear husband so many years ago, there still are days I deeply long for his adoring eyes, tender touch and wise words.  Oh yes, my Lord is my Husband, compassionate and gracious, but we also yearn for human connection and concern.  Surely the body of Christ offers much solace and strength, but the only true salve for our souls is our Lord, God and Maker.  So if your temple maintenance intentions have been feckless because you’re forlorn, it’s time to go to the Scripture Spa.  There’s nothing like a deep massage and a soak in a hot bath to relax both body and brain, but truly the Word of God is the only way to heal your heart.  You need to know that you know that you know your Father loves you, has a plan for you, and walks with you, holding your hand.  So go draw yourself a cup o’ tea, find a comfy place of quiet solitude, and deeply meditate on these verses, quietly whispering them aloud:

 I have loved you with an everlasting love;
    therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.  Jer 31:3

For I am the Lord your God,
    the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…
4 Because you are precious in my eyes,
    and honored, and I love you,…   Is 43:3-4

The Lord your God is in your midst,
    a mighty one who will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness;
    He will quiet you by his love;
He will exult over you with loud singing.   Zeph 3:17

And I will betroth you to Me forever. I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy.  Hos 2:19

 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 8:38-39

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide (rest) in my love.  John 15:9

O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
    You discern my thoughts from afar.
3 You search out my path and my lying down
    and are acquainted with all my ways.
4 Even before a word is on my tongue,
    behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
5 You hem me in, behind and before,
    and lay Your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
    it is high; I cannot attain it.

7 Where shall I go from Your Spirit?
    Or where shall I flee from Your presence?
8 If I ascend to heaven, You are there!
    If I make my bed in Sheol, You are there!
9 If I take the wings of the morning
    and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 even there Your hand shall lead me,
    and Your right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,
    and the light about me be night,”
12 even the darkness is not dark to You;
    the night is bright as the day,
    for darkness is as light with You.

13 For You formed my inward parts;
    You knitted me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are Your works;
    my soul knows it very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from You,
when I was being made in secret,
    intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in Your book were written, every one of them,
    the days that were formed for me,
    when as yet there was none of them.

17 How precious to me are Your thoughts, O God!
    How vast is the sum of them!
18 If I would count them, they are more than the sand.
    I awake, and I am still with you.   Psalm 139

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
    Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
    and lead me in the way everlasting!

We love because He first loved us.  I John 4:19
