Heart Habit

My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments.  Prov 3:1

Dear friends,

A habit isn’t a habit until it’s from the heart.  Did someone once say that or did I make it up my own self?  Regardless, seems true to me.  Until we are walking in His ways solely out of our profound devotion to Him, we’re merely complying to a command.  Now let’s consider a simple example.  There seems to be an age-old expectation that taking out the trash defaults to the husband’s Honey Do list.  Now if hubby is hustling the cans merely to avoid a woman’s scorn, he’s not serving from his heart.  But if his work is love-based – if he does it because he truly wants to please her – he is satisfied in serving her – then his garbage hauling is a reflection of his affection.

Let’s look now at your reason for exercising every day.  If you believe your Maker has called you to move and you moan and you groan every step of the way, has it become a heart habit?  Don’t think so.  But if you get out there and praise Him for the strength and ability and opportunity to walk, and you wave your arms wildly, singing praises to Jesus, THEN you know you have a heart habit.  Every step is a worship workout vs. a whinin’ workout.   Which do you believe more pleases your heavenly Father?  Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth!  Serve the LORD with gladness!  Come into his presence with singing!  (Psalm 100:1)

Now, go on.  Get out there and get movin’.  Sing to the Lord a new song while you’re enjoying your jaunt.  Make it a heart habit.

Live Well,

Grace
