Evening Feasting

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:15-16

For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:10

Dear friends,

One of my sisters got a recent revelation that I do believe could be a game changer for many of you. It began when her Bible study group considered fasting for a day to prayerfully lift up the children of their community. Though she deeply cared for the wee ones in her town, she was jittery about missing multiple meals. Oh sure, she knew she wouldn’t keel over dead of malnourishment in a single cycle of the sun, but she simply couldn’t rally to endure the discomfort. Weeks later my friend was discussing her temptation and tendency to eat in the evenings, sometimes excessively. Then God gave her the revelation: “Fast from supper to sunrise. Spend your evenings with Me. Read My Word. Share your supplications with Me. Turn your mind and your heart toward your Maker after dinner instead of your flesh’s destructive desires. Come to your place of peace.”

She did, and my goodness gracious, it was truly transformational. With her permission I share her words of testimony:

“I was able to refrain from eating five out of the seven evenings last week! And, what is even better is that I KNEW that it was not my own strength doing it. I had meditated on Hebrews 4:15-16 and 2 Corinthians 12:10. It has always been so hard for me to be weak; yet I think I’m finally “getting it” that it is our weakness (and not our inner strength) that opens the door to a deeper and closer walk with Jesus. And when I do fast in the evenings, I find that I wake up the next morning with a much more clear and “ready-for-the-day” brain! That totally excites me!”

Does the devil lure you to overindulge after supper? Are evenings often a battle of the flesh? Then fast, folks. Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.* Draw near to the throne of grace with confidence, that you may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. For when you are weak, then you are strong.

Live Well,

Grace
